Traveling Apothecary - September 16th 2006 This page has some images from the Traveling Apothecary event which I participated in. I produced a stall which was designed to cure Ikeamania - an addiction to the Swedish furniture retailer.
The patient was required to first place their hand on the diagnosis plate, this activated the spinning dial above their heads. The needle stopped on a number which showed their level of mania -
the corresponding number was set on the electropathic machine:
The patient held out their hand, which the electric lady stroked it with her electrified glove. The treatment was complete when they either stopped screaming, or simply wouldn't put their hand out any longer:
After having taken the cure the patient receives a certificate to prove to the world that they are free of Ikeamania:

Many thanks to all the people who helped me out in making this project - Jack Schulze for designing the great poster, Steve Pippet for allowing me to use his workshop and helping to build various parts of the stall, Wendy White for embroidering the electric lady gloves, Andy Powell for helping me to transport the parts to the British Library, Helena Perez for being the electric lady and smiling at all the people she was shocking and finally to all the people who came along on the day and agreed to be cured. The event was organised by the people at Scarlet Projects for the Wellcome trust Back to Mr-Jones.org
